Boat Storage - Essential Elements To Look For

By David Faulkner

Boat storage is a necessity if you own a boat. A lot of people giddy and excited about purchasing a boat consider the factor of boat storage only when it is too late. It is a good thing that these days, you are free to choose from an array of options when it comes to selecting a boat storage arrangement that would suit your requirements.

The most accessible alternative for boat storage is definitely your own backyard, provided there is enough room to accommodate it. Your boat can be stationed here when you are not using it. It is the safest alternative as you can keep an eye on your expensive vehicle at all times.

A sturdy boat cover is, of course, essential for that added protection against extreme weather conditions, and should at the same time be constructed in a way that allows easy access to your boat.

If you've got the bucks to spare, you might invest in the construction of a boat house in your backyard that is spacious enough not only for boat storage but also for maintenance and cleaning paraphernalia. Simple maintenance jobs and repairs can also be performed here.

If, on the other hand, your backyard is not big enough to accommodate your boat, there are spaces available for rent at the marina for your boat storage requirements. Payment terms can be for one whole season or on a monthly basis. A marina situated close to a water body that you often go to is perfect and should be a major consideration before you close a boat storage deal.

There are certain elements to be considered in selecting boat storage. You should first consider your own resources before anything else. If the local government permits, you can construct your own boat storage building. Otherwise, you may consider the marina for that needed boat storage space.

This alternative, however, entails some considerations such as the manner in which your boat will be kept; easy access to your boat anytime; and the stipulated conditions in renting the place. It is also important that the boat storage facility is protected against harsh weather conditions.

Tips On used seadoo

Speedboats or powerboats are normally streamlined boats with very powerful engines in them. They range in size from the small Zapcats which were originally designed from surf rescue crafts in South Africa, and although they are only powered by a 50 horsepower engine they can go very fast reaching speeds of 50mph, as they are very light. They are relatively inexpensive and because they are inflatable they can be set up and packed away easily. Seadoo Sportsters are another attractively priced option at around 20000

There is no engineering limit to the size of jet boats, though the validity of their use depends a lot on the type of application. Classic prop-drives are generally more efficient and economical at low speeds (up to about 20 knots) but as boat speed increases beyond this the extra hull resistance generated by struts, rudders, shafts etc means waterjets are more efficient in the 20-50 knot range. Also, in situations where you need very large propellers turning at slow speeds (such as tug boats) the equivalent size waterjet would be simply too big to be practical. For these reasons the vast majority of waterjet units are installed in high speed vessels and in particular situations where shallow draught, manoeuvrability and load flexibility are main concerns.

Ciguatera, A Danger For Yacht Crews Sailing In The Tropics

Sun, 16 Sep 2007 12:09:24 +0200
When catching dinner, how concerned are cruisers and sailors about catching fish which carry the Ciguatera toxin? I only know what amounts to 'folklore'. In Australian waters many anglers avoid eating large fish which are known to dwell amid coral reefs. The parrot fish (beautiful fillets!!) is known to be particularly prone to Ciguatera. I understand that fish caught in deep water, or away from coral, do not carry Ciguatera. Is this correct?

Seattle To Hawaii And Guam - Sailing Crew Needed.

Mon, 17 Sep 2007 10:42:01 +0200
I need 2 or 3 sailing crew for Seattle to Hawaii and on to Guam. I will depart from Seattle/Port Angeles on or about 1 September and leave the boat in Guam. The boat is a 42 ft Cheoy Lee, well outfitted and solid. I am expecting to allow 2 months for the trip to Guam including 10 days port time in Hawaii for refitting and repair.

To All Cruisers - Information On Cruising Expenses.

This is not "how much does it cost to cruise." This isn't "How much did you spend in Fiji?" This is, "what do you spend on a monthly or weekly basis in the various ports while cruising?" It doesn't have to be exact, and shouldn't be overblown, but this is intended to buttress the arguments of many destination-based businesses that cruising sailors are good for the local economy. This is a subject near and dear to my heart, because it isn't just Fiji who discounts the cruising sailor as a benefit to the economy, and it's the powerful resorts who get the ear of government in most economies dependent upon the tourist dollar.
