Temporary Removal of Durban's Visitor Jetty

Due to dredging operations taking place in the vicinity of Durban's international/visitors jetty, the jetty has been temporarily removed. One's only option, if sailing in to Durban in the next few weeks, and one hasn't organised a prior walk on mooring, would be to anchor in the Silburn channel.

Looking For Experienced Crew - Long Term Available

Hello everyone! I am at a crossroads in my life and am excited for the next adventure. My plan is to purchase a sailboat with the proceeds from the sale of my business and live/cruise/relax/explore for 6 months of the year- every year! (if anyone has any recommendations for what I should buy - I'm all ears - I'm looking to spend around $200kusd and like the idea of a multi hull) I have limited sailing experience but am certified in advanced navigation standard and off shore cruising standard by CYA. Because of my limited on water experience I am looking for an experienced person to be the "captain" of the boat and teach me along the way! Hopefully the candidate will be easy to get a long with and will be able to stay with the boat long term. (I will need someone to sail/maintain her when I'm not there for 6 months of the year!) The crew will only be expected to contribute an equal share of the cost of food and drinks. All boat costs (fuel, fees, marinas, etc.,) will be covered by me!. Each person is to cover their own travel expenses to/from the boat and their costs of personal visas, etc.

Hints About speed boats

Pleasure craft made in Canada, or imported to Canada, after August 1, 1981, must have a HIN marking. The HIN must be on the outside of the transom on the starboard side, or as close to that area as possible if marking on the transom is not practical. If you can no longer obtain a HIN from the manufacturer, or if the vessel is home-built, request an application package from a Transport Canada Centre to obtain one.

Jet boats are highly maneuverable, and many can, from full speed, be reversed and brought to a stop within little more than their own length, in a maneuver known as a "crash stop". The well known Hamilton turn or "jet spin" is a high speed manoevre where the boat is turned sharply then the engine throttle is cut causing the boat's stern to lift and spin quickly around with a large spray of water.

Marinas are the top of the range as far as moorings are concerned. Moorings in a marina tend to provide deep water throughout the day and therefore a jetty or pontoon is provided so that you can walk to your boat without getting wet.These are known as Pontoon Moorings. They will also provide most of the facilities that you require whilst using your boat. These may include showers and toilets, chandlery, parking, cafe and even a clubhouse. The security provided by a marina will be good and in many cases will include electronic access gates and CCTV camaras.
