Actual-Facts Boat Buying Guide for First Timers

You are so excited that you have made the decision to join the world of boat owners. You want to buy your very first boat! Are you ready to go to the local marine dealer? Have you been asking questions, doing research about the type of boat you are looking for? There are some things that a first time boat buyer needs to think about before you make the big buy.

Boating is expensive. Are you going to use it enough to make it worth all investment and time that goes into a power boat for example and its upkeep?

Think about the costs of purchasing the boat, license, insurance, interest, fuel, oil, trailer, storage, repairs, use of a two vehicle, weekend trips, more fishing gear, skis, life jackets�Etc. There is a lot more to consider than buying a car.

There is also the time to consider getting everything ready before and after each outing in the boat.

Boat Shows: Going to a Boat Show is a great way to see what types and styles of boats are out there to choose from. It is a great place to collect information and to see the boats up close. You can learn a lot from the salespeople�s own experiences. The salespeople can help you decide what size of boat you want. They should also be able to offer information about winterization, repairs, towing etc.

Boat Type: What type of boat are you looking for? Do you plan to operate it in salt water? Are you hoping to go fishing, ski, and cruise with your boat? The type of boats needs to suit your needs and time.

Big Is Not Always Best: It always is not better to buy the biggest boat your first time. They are harder to handle and look after. For a new boater, it also takes time to learn how to dock. Why not buy a small used boat the first time. There is a lot to learn and you won�t be so upset when you hit the dock a few times.

Asking Price versus Selling Price: When you see a boat that you like, go to another boat dealer to compare prices and value. You can go online to compare boat prices too. That sticker price does not always mean the real price. Some times you can bargain and lower the price too. (Just as in buying a car) Have some fun. Learn to haggle so you can get a decent price.

Buying a new boat is quite the same as buying a new car. But there are far more safety rules to follow with boating. Take your time, do your research and you will find the boat that you want. Happy Boating.

Much like a motorcycle, acceleration in a jet ski is provided by a hand-powered throttle located on the right-side grip. By twisting the throttle, the driver can increase power to the motor. Steering a jet ski requires a combination of pointing the front-mounted grips and maneuvering the body. Building an inflatable boat is complex, and expensive and is best left to the professionals. Building your own boat will likely cost more than buying one and could prove to be a safety hazard as well. Insuring it or passing government inspections/regulations my be difficult also. Patterns for the sections of the inflatable collar are hard to get and it is unlikely a manufacturer will supply them or that a dealer would have them. However, if you really want to try, a dealer will likely sell you the fabric, glue, parts, etc.

"Durban 2010 and Beyond" Wins 1st Leg - Durban 2010 and Beyond has won the second race of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race from La Rochelle to Salvador da Bahia. Crossing the finish line at 15:45 UTC the South African team have gained the maximum 10 points by winning the first ocean crossing and the result has moved them to the top of the overall leader board from their fifth place position at the end of Race 1.
